So yesterday I dropped by Times Square with my family and relatives from Brunei (took them shopping) and I popped into the Nature Republic store to look for some moisturizers. I just finished using the samples I got when I went to Korea so I was ecstatic that a store opened up in Malaysia. :D
So, RM180 poorer later, I realized they gave me a poster of Rain (*squeals*) and a booklet filled with his face and hot bod. yayness. :D
So I was just flipping around and came to this page when I realized something...odd... very odd...
Can you see what's wrong with this picture?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
SIAPA TU?!?!?!?! OMG OMG OMG.
It's either a crew member who didn't realize he was in the shot. or... that.
I had a good feeling that day, my fortune cookie said it would be a nice day. :)
Lo and behold, I received a phone call from Rebecca of Advertlets asking if I could attend a Media Screening of Alice In Wonderland cos another blogger couldn't make it. Siaoness! Of course I said yes. :D :D :D I have to thank Thong Kai too cos he put in a good word or two for me. haha. xD
I was crazy excited okay? -MEDIA SCREENING- & -TEA PARTY- Woohoo! :D
Of course there were some doubts since I didn't receive my invitation card via snail mail yet, but Rebecca assured me that my name was on the list so I could definitely attend.
Would be darn sad loh if I went and they told me I can't go in without the invitation card. :C
I was super kanchiong that day, rushed to Midvalley cos I was kinda late (White Rabbit syndrome.) and was darn worried bout getting a parking place.
So desperate that I had no choice but to do a reverse parking cos I ngam ngam went pass a couple getting into their car.
I think I was hyperventilating the whole time.
I have never done a reverse parking on my own before (don't count driver's license test lah, that one got formula to memorize.) so this was pretty epic. And to make matters worse, I was on pretty busy lane full of impatient cars waiting for what seems like a P driver to park.
I was so proud of myself I had to take a quick snapshot whilst risking being run down by the other cars.
So I walked as fast as I could (4 inch heels, can't run.) and got to the Midvalley Centre Court.
And I was greeted by this:
With a thousand apologies to UncleEuveng Kor-kor. Orz
But seriously, Midvalley really made an effort to recreate Wonderland, or more accurately, Underland(as it is called in the movie).
It really felt as though I had stepped into Wonderland, surrounded by mushrooms in all shapes, sizes and colours. I was gobsmacked, flabbergasted, blown away, astounded etc etc by how detailed the environment design was.
And right in the middle of "Wonderland" was none other than the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.
So crazy awesome right? This photo is only 1/4 of the entire table. Head on down to Midvalley and you can see it for yourself and take photos with the beautiful decorations. :) There's gonna be tons of fun activities and events going on in Midvalley from the 10th to 21st of March.
I was too busy stuffing my face with the delectable nom noms provided. haha. Free flow of coffee, tea, and peach juice. Sandwiches, cheese cakes, mini sausage buns and loads more tidbits were served to us by friendly waiters.
At one point we had to ask them to stop tempting us with all the yummy treats otherwise we girls can say bye bye to our waistlines. haha.
It was pretty crowded at the event. I more or less just stood in one area with the rest of the bloggers. :P I got to meet Dila, Jeremy and Justin there. Very cool people. :) Advertlet's resident hot blogger babes Hanie and Amanda were there as well. :)
We were treated to an interesting dance performance by dancers dressed to look like the characters from Alice in Wonderland.
The dance was basically a summary/interpretation of the entire movie (spoiler dy. lol.) according to DJ Ean of Hitz.fm who was the emcee that day.
I must say I'm pretty impressed, the costumes were amazing! And they were all in character, especially the Mad Hatter. hehehe.
If you wanna catch them in action again, there's a "Let's Party" Dance Show on Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm, Fridays & Weekends at 3pm and 7pm. They even have a meet and greet session daily at 1.30pm and 5pm!
And btw, there are tons of other activities for kids and contests going on in conjunction with the premiere of Alice in Wonderland + the school holidays. You'll have to head on over to Midvalley Megamall to find out more. ;)
ZOMG I was so happy I got to met Belinda Chee. She's so so so so pretty and sweet! Was such an honor meeting her. *fangirl squeals*
One of the main events that day was a lucky draw. Winners would receive prizes from the sponsors/partners including Alice in Wonderland themed jewelry from Swarovski, perfume from Nina Ricci and a limited edition Alice in Wonderland book with thumbdrive.
After they gave away the Nina Ricci perfumes, they started giving away the Alice in Wonderland books. There were only 3 of those being given away.
After one person got it, I was silently praying (okay more like begging) that they would call my number.
And then they announced "235".
I scrambled for my Lucky Draw Key (no chance to take a photo of it) and weaved through the throngs of guests to get to the stage.
Lemme confess, I was so excited I was shaking all over. haha.
OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I WON THE BOOK!!!!!
With Josh Lim, the boss of Adverlets, and my Lucky Draw prize!
Josh even got Unseen TV to interview me! I was still shaking from the excitement and was totally messing up my answers during the interview. hahaha. Too happy dy. :P
After that they had a special fashion show to showcase the beautiful Alice in Wonderland inspired pieces created by Swarovski.
With Rebecca, who saved Euveng that day. Rebecca is so awesome. :) Find out more about the drama here: Cinema Tickets Hijacked
Now I shall give you a in-depth "tour" of the amazing "book" I won.
It wasn't just ANY sorta "book"...open it up and you'll find that it's a book in a book...
in a book...
in a book.
How cool is that?! :D :D :D
This is in the little blue book.
Flip it over and ta-dah! The "Key" to Wonderland.
Comes with a Read Me too. haha.
Yup. The "Key" is actually the thumbdrive. :D :D :D
I have since found out that there are only 10 of these in Malaysia. It was specially created as a press kit (in the US) to promote the movie.
And for those curious, the USB is a 1GB thumbdrive filled with pictures, banners, and even the international trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. :) As mentioned above it was a press kit so hence the contents in the thumbdrive. :)
This is my precious precious treasure. :)
Being someone with a advertising design + multimedia background, this was truly a feast to my eyes. I love love love the details, the first book has a few pages of the director Tim Burton + Lewis Caroll + Disney, the second book shows the concept art of some key locations in the movie, the third book has pictures of the main characters. A perfect "souvenir"! :)
Owh and I must thank Jeremy for being such a gentleman and helping me carry the massive book. :D I carried it for a short while only and I woke up the next day with aching muscles. T^T
As this was the first time I attended a media screening, I was very excited (yes yes, technically I was excited the whole time. haha.) to receive a goodie bag! :D
The yummy yummy goodies:
Nina Ricci miniature perfume. I love the scent of this perfume!
Alice in Wonderland notebook from Midvalley Megamall.
Alice in Wonderland Tea Set. So crazy cute! From HSBC. If I'm not mistaken, you can redeem one for yourself at Midvalley if you spend RM250 and above with your HSBC credit card, RM300 for non HSBC card holders. :)
Brochures/flyers with each character.
And finally, I saved the best for last - my review on the movie. :)
I've been an Alice in Wonderland fan since I watched the Disney animated movie years ago. (sudah tua. haih.)
I always loved the Mad Hatter scene. Seems like so much fun. :)
The original illustration for the Lewis Caroll book.
So imagine my excitement when I heard that Tim Burton was coming up with his version of Alice In Wonderland! :D :D :D I seriously couldn't believe it and immediately started snooping around to find out when it would be released. Beh tahan okay? Tim Burton = fav movie director, Alice in Wonderland = fav childhood story. Woohoo!
And then I got even more excited when I saw the concept art done by Imaginism Studios.
And then my bf added fuel to my obsession by doing his own rendition of the White Rabbit as part of his class project. :)
I even wanted to get costumes from PrettySinful.com for Halloween parties next time:
So finally, finally, finally, after much waiting and much anticipation, the movie is now showing in Malaysia. :D :D :D
At the Media Screening that day, they prepared popcorn and drinks for us and outside the cinema hall, the dancers from the Tea Party were around for us to camwhore with and even gave each of us a stalk of rose. Thank you so much! :)
ALICE IN WONDERLAND is an epic 3D fantasy adventure starring JOHNNY DEPP as the Mad Hatter and MIA WASIKOWSKA as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends:the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter.
Honestly I thought the movie was going to be very dark and bloody (kinda like Sweeney Todd) since there was going to be a battle between the two queens. But it wasn't that dark at all. In fact it was pretty comical, like how the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) moves and speaks. hehe.
When the movie started, I was quite taken aback by how, erm, pale Alice was. She looked a little zombified at the beginning. Things started getting interesting when the real life characters in Alice's normal world reflect many of the characters in Wonderland. The "fiance's" mom resembled the Queen of Hearts, there's a pair of sisters who talk like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and so on.
The storyline started picking up after Alice decides to chase after the White Rabbit and falls into the hole that brings her to Wonderland. Needless to say, the scenes of Wonderland are breathtakingly beautiful.
I have to give them a standing ovation for creating realistic interactions between Alice and her surroundings. It didn't feel like the other characters were fake at all, it was believable to the point where I forgot that Mia Wasikowska who acts as Alice was acting in front of a green screen.
I think most of us had a problem catching what the Mad Hatter and other characters were saying as there were no subtitles. I guess it's because it's the 3D version. So I had to really concentrate hard and try to catch what they said, unfortunately I missed out on a lot of things the Mad Hatter said thanks to his accent. :C Not that Johnny Depp didn't do a good job at portraying the Mad Hatter, he was really good, only perhaps my Malaysian ears have a problem picking up his accent. :C
I absolutely LOVED the Cheshire Cat. He was PERFECT. Spot on! Fluid in his movements, vanishing and reappearing easily, amusingly cheeky and his signature grin was fabulous. :D
The "Bloody Red Queen" (Helena Bonham Carter) was a very interesting character to watch. From her subtle changes in expression when the Red Knight comes, to her look of disdain when facing her younger sister (the White Queen). She would make a perfect bobblehead doll. haha. (I can almost see her turn beet red, screaming "OFF WITH HER HEAD!!!" at my suggestion.)
Overall I did enjoy the movie. There were certain parts here and there that I wish was done differently. And I still wish it was a lot darker and more twisted, I blame it on having read the Beyond Wonderland and Return to Wonderland comic series. Those were crazy dark and twisted versions of Alice in Wonderland. :P
Watching the movie in 3D was an interesting experience, though in my opinion you should be able to watch it in 2D and still feel like you've been "sucked" into a world full of oddities and crazy characters. If you're planning to watch it in 3D, try to get center seats or closer to the front seats. Seating far far back kinda spoils the experience. I'm going to be watching Alice in Wonderland again, this time in 2D, hopefully with subtitles so that I won't miss anything out. :)
The artwork is drawn by Asabuki Mari, author/storyline by Disney.
I'm kinda curious as to how the story would pan out...mm hmm. I know there are scanlation groups that have already picked this series up. Go search if you wanna read it, I won't put up links here, wouldn't wanna get into any unnecessary trouble. haha.
