TM UniFi

Last Thursday I received a call inviting me to attend the social media briefing of TM's UniFi July Rollout that was held at La Bodega BSC.

I was curious about TM's UniFi service so I dropped by to find out more. Kepoh a bit. haha.

TM had also set up a promo booth within BSC.

Looking at environmental designs like this reminds me of the assignments I had during my degree. Designing exhibition booths for our campaigns in 3D and making a walkthrough. Those were the days. :)

The service at La Bodega was exceptionally good. Servers always within an earshot, constantly cleaning up our tables, refilling our drinks and very accommodating. :)

Of course, the organizers were all very friendly as well. :)
Interesting choice to have the briefing here, TM wanted a chillax style briefing which was nice.

Yummy yummy buffet spread. :3

The lemon tarts were so so so good!

Before the start of the briefing, I had the privilege of sitting next to Mr. Razlan (former editor of The Star Online) who happened to know my friend Victor Yap (cos they both used to write for The Star InTech). Of course, he filled me in on how Victor used to be such a good boy and is totally different now. hahaha.

Thank you for keeping me entertained with your stories and making me feel at home Mr. Razlan. :)

The briefing was done by Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Ahmad Azhar Yahya, HSBB Programme Director, TM.

Key points of the briefing:
  • TM is on track to meet premises passed target for 2010 - 750,000 premises passed
  • Service availability expanded to cover 22 TM exchange areas in July and on track for a total of 48 exchange areas by end 2010
  • Service coverage now goes beyond Klang Valley to cover industrial sites in Penang, Johor and Kedah.
  • Customer channels increased from 6 to 23 TMpoints.
  • Upcoming introduction of online customer portal.
  • UniFi sales steadily increasing and billing will commence in July.

So anyway, the main purpose of the briefing is to inform everyone that UniFi is now available in 18 more areas (which brings the total to 22 areas nationwide), these new areas include:
Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kedah
Bayan Baru in Penang
Senai and Permas in Johor
Wangsa Maju
Sungai Buloh
Puchong
Cyberjaya
Putrajaya
Damansara
The full list of areas can be found on www.tm.com.my
(when will it come to Cheras? *sad*)

Owh and from July onwards, existing UniFi subscribers will begin paying their monthly subscription fees. Previously early birds only had to pay their old streamyx fees and didn't have to pay for the UniFi subsciption.

TM will still be continuing their incentivisation policy for new UniFi subscribers, who will enjoy no charges for installation, equipment or activation until further notice. There is also no deposit required.

Contracts for UniFi standard service subscription are a minimum of 24-months.
Those who have existing streamyx contracts can convert it to a UniFi contract (I think there's a small fee involved).

UniFi is currently offered via 3 residential packages:
VIP (Video, Internet, Phone) 5 @RM149/month
VIP10 @RM199/month
VIP20 @RM249/month

Some info on HyppTV:

Some FAQ regarding installation:
  1. During the installation process, what will be expected of the homeowner?
  2. Homeowners should read, understand and acknowledge all important notes highlighted in the application form regarding the service. In other words, be sure to read the FINE PRINT. :) Homeowners also need to be present during the installation process. The person who is gonna use the service the most should be around so that you can be sure the installation is done correctly. According to TM, you can schedule a weekend appointment if weekdays are not convenient.
  3. Will TM carry out concealed wiring for the installation?
  4. No. You'll need to get your own contractor or one from TM's approved list however charges are not covered by TM. TM will provide externally mounted wall wiring which will be enclosed in a plastic casing.
  5.  How long will a typical installation take?
  6. For landed properties, 5-8hours. For high-rise buildings, 2-3hours.
  7. Any installation charges involved?
  8. No. But take note that if you have confirmed an appointment and there's no one at the premise when the installation team arrives(resulting in a cancellation or postponement), there's a penalty fee of RM100.

  2. Don't get Unifi! Their download cap limit is pretty shitty to torrent downloaders, I recommend using Streamyx 4 Mbps.

  3. What package do you use? Was planning to get the VIP20 one that has a 120GB cap. Should be quite enough right?
